Computer Science Week National Conference 2022

25th October 2022

This week saw the launch of the first ever Computer Science Week with the National Conference being held in Athlone Springs Hotel on October 13th.  Side by side with industry exhibitors, students from both Primary and Post-Primary schools displayed the creative initiatives going on in their schools.  Students then attended workshops in Lego Spike, Human Centred AI and Computational Thinking with Drones.  The Keynote Speaker of the day, Lorraine Underwood, discussed “How to save the world with Computer Science”, with the audience showing particular interest in her latest project – an interactive installation at the Blackpool Illuminations.

Two exciting initiatives were launched, the Buddy System to enable teachers and schools to connect with industry experts to support them in their Computer Science educational journey and the new Computer Science Information website went live www.computerscienceinfo.ie

Capping off the day was an informed panel discussion, chaired by the MC Anthony Kilcoyne (Deputy Director, PDST) on “Computer Science, experiences, challenges, supports and opportunities”.

The day was a huge success in promoting Computer Science Education and Training for All!
