Congratulations to all the schools who attended the 2016 FÍS Film festival awards ceremony, which took place on Wednesday 16th November at the Helix Mahony Hall. The Aileen MacKeogh Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film-making was presented to Leenane National School, Co. Galway for their famine re-enactment, When Cropfields Cry.

The FÍS Film festival awards ceremony celebrates achievements in film making, excitement is high in participating schools across the country.

The awards ceremony were streamed live, making it possible for a global and national audience to be part of the celebrations. To acknowledge the hard work and achievement of pupils over the course of the film making process, a very special show was planned.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the highly successful film project which supports the integration of digital media in the classroom.  Over the years the project has succeeded in helping children to develop essential skills in moving-image literacy, communication and teamwork in addition to exploring curricular topics in an engaging and child-centred way.

The result has been that both teachers and children find the experience enriching and rewarding.
