An Introduction to E-tutoring (online)

This short course provides an introduction to e-tutoring and an overview of the role of e-tutor in the context of summer courses, which carry an entitlement of extra personal vacation (EPV) days for primary teachers. It is also suitable for anyone who is undertaking an e-tutoring role for the first time. The course was developed by PDST Technology in Education in partnership with DCU’s International Centre for Innovation and Workplace Learning.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be enabled to:

  • Develop online communication skills and competencies necessary to be an effective e-tutor
  • Understand their role in enabling learners to fully access and participate in an online course
  • Become familiar with different models of e-tutoring
  • Promote interactivity to ensure learners engage fully and meaningfully in discussion forums
  • Guide learners in their achievements of learning outcomes.

Course Content

The course content will provide guidance and helpful strategies for e-tutors to facilitate online professional learning by teachers. It is broken down into five modules, as follows:

  • Module 3 – E-tutoring Skills
  • Module 4 – Managing Online Learners
  • Module 5 – An Effective E-tutor.
