How did newspapers report the shooting of Michael Collins?

Teachers have access to the Irish Newspaper Archive through their Scoilnet Accounts.

All Scoilnet account users have access to the Irish Newspaper Archive (via their Scoilnet Account sign-in). Over 70 national and regional newspapers are accessible, dating back to the 1800s.

When using – always best to sign-in to Scoilnet first and after that go to the link on the home page and access via the home access for teachers link https://www.scoilnet.ie/scoilnet/tools-for-teachers/ina/

The archive may be of particular interest at the moment as the state commemorates events from 100 years ago. The shooting of Michael Collins in particular was first covered by the Irish Independent on 23 August (page 5 – front page was for advertisements. The new Clerys was opening around now too)

With a few days to prepare the Sunday Independent the following weekend changed precedent and actually put the news on the front page.
